Age in Place at home - it's
where you want to be.

Quote of the Month
"On
the road again. Just can't wait to get on the road again."
Willie Nelson |
Going Mobile |
While my husband I enjoy entertaining the
idea of a nomadic, mobile lifestyle it turns out a lot of other people
are actually doing it! Many Boomers have a vision of a luxury RV
second home - and according to a recent article in Smart Money (Luxury
Retirement On Wheels) - some are making it their primary residence.
Efficient design, single-level living at its best.

Honda U3-X Unicycle Of The Future
Personal mobility devices, like wheel chairs and scooters, give
millions of
people with varying degrees of ability a sense of freedom. Now a new
generation of devices are coming off the drawing board starting with
the revolutionary Segueway. Honda's U3X kicks it up a notch.
Lightweight and easy to ride it makes it highly portable. It could
easily be used at a shopping mall.
Oh yeah, you know we have a video you can watch to see it in action:

Staying In Place
|
We've been tracking the Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORCs)
phenomenon for several years now and it seems like is things are
really picking up speed. From it's humble beginnings in Beacon Hill
(Boston, MA) there are now more 55 up and running and 120 in the
works according to Rita Kostiuk, National Coordinator of the
Village to Village Network, an organization that
brings together established Villages to support the development of
new ones. And other programs are underway across the U.S. as
described by Philip Moeller in Money Magazine:
Senior Villages Take Root as
Movement Matures.
Eligible California organizations interested in the Village concept can answer the
Archstone Foundation's Request for Proposals
"Creating Aging Friendly Communities through the Expansion of
Villages". The goal is
to further understand and document the varying Village models being
developed, support consumer driven culture change as it pertains to
the delivery of services for older adults who age in place, and
identify the key organizational characteristics that will advance
the effectiveness and sustainability of these models.

Eric Rupert with Sub-Zero/Wolf demonstrates
induction cooking. |
According to Wikipedia an induction
cooker uses induction heat which means heat is generated
directly in the pot rather than by the stove top. Faster heating,
means less energy. It's safer because there are no open flames. And
more accessible because the cook top is shallow and can be placed at
counter height with open space below it.

The more Facebook friends you have, the more likely you are to feel stressed out by the social networking site, according to a study published by psychologists from Edinburgh Napier University.

Re: AIP- Ugh!
I don't know what it is but there MUST be something better.
How about Living in Place or Living with Ease?
